Paul’s JourneyClick on this link for Paul's update, with photos, from Paul. 8/4/10 - Paul has finished his walk, as explained by him, below: "Many of you may have heard of my intention to hike the Appalachian Trail. The opportunity to run for, and serve in the 137th district assembly seat has now intervened. The life long aspiration of a through-hike is temporarily on hold. To those who generously pledged support of the hike and funding toward the Schuyler County Humane Society building fund - Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Emily, Levon, Moose and I have completed our two week hike on the Appalachian trail. We hiked a section of the trail called the 100 mile wilderness, we started at Mt. Katahdin and finished in Monson, ME. " Paul Marcellus is pursuing a life-long aspiration of hiking the entire length of The Appalachian Trail, all 2,168 miles! Many have shared this dream, but only 12% of those who start the trail complete it in any given year. Paul has generously offered to raise monies for The Humane Society of Schuyler County's Building Fund through pledges for his journey. If you would like to support Paul on his journey, you can either make a one-time donation using PayPal (see below) or you can make a pledge per mile walked by downloading the pledge form (MS Word Document) and either email it back using info@schuylerhumane.org or send it to us via U.S. Mail to: 2386 CR 10, Alpine, NY 14805 When Paul returns you will be notified of the total amount of your pledge.
The Humane Society of Schuyler County’s Building FundIn August of 2009, we were asked to assume management of the county dog shelter located on Van Zandt Hollow Rd. This represented a large operational and financial challenge for us. We have been housing dogs in the shelter since that time, in a space that is too small and in need of repair. This is creating a highly stressful environment for the animals and we have no place to quarantine sick or injured dogs so we are boarding them out, at our expense. The need to expand our current facility to appropriately shelter both dogs and cats in one location is imperative for the welfare of the animals. And, our agreement with the county stipulates that we will have a new facility in place by December of 2010. We greatly appreciate Paul’s efforts on behalf of The Humane Society and your financial support. Disclaimer: Paul Marcellus is not undertaking this effort in his official capacity as County Legislator, nor is this an activity sponsored by Schuyler County. |
